Toni Barnum

Toni joined Stone Murphy in 1983 and has built the firm’s Financial Services practice, an industry sector she thoroughly enjoys. Over time she has become nationally recognized as an expert in recruitment within the industry providing high value advice and trusted counsel to executives and hiring mangers while evaluating their most crucial asset - human capital. Toni describes her 30+ years of focused recruiting as  “time spent earning several MBAs”, having interviewed hundreds of senior level professionals with exceptional and unique technical and leadership skills, gaining perspective that can only be obtained by working through several market cycles and a world of ever-changing technology impact.

Clients served are investment management firms, private equity, real estate and hedge funds, insurance and trust companies, and banking institutions headquartered in the Midwest. Successful national searches include Presidents, Chief Investment Officers and other experienced professionals in the functional areas of portfolio management, investment research, trading, corporate finance, and marketing for fixed income, equity and alternative asset classes. Other assignments within the financial services sector include recruitment of senior management professionals in finance, risk, compliance, legal and distribution.

Toni’s commitment to clients’ long-term success, combined with her genuine interest in seeing professionals achieve their personal and professional goals has made building the practice a fulfilling and easy career.  Her ability to foster relationships with clients and retain a long -tenured Stone Murphy team, are key components to the success of the practice. Known to be pragmatic and deliver results, Toni synthesizes a thoughtful and considerate style driving collaboration and producing best outcomes for all constituencies involved in the search process.

After beginning her career at KPMG in the Audit practice, Toni worked as a Manager in Corporate Human Resources for General Mills before joining Stone Murphy. She graduated from Northern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Accounting. As a supporter of 100 Women in Finance and Girls Who Invest, Toni encourages women who have chosen a career in finance and investments.

In her encore years, Toni plans to continue working with a select group of long-term clients providing both executive search and broader consulting expertise, while enjoying more time with family, volunteering, traveling and golfing.
